Muriel Lucas wrote me to tell me that there was a very "important omission in the news" that we shared about the DSU Sit-In.
The omission was that "our uncle Donald Carl Sutton was one of the leaders of the 1969 protest at DSU.
The state of Mississippi had a Sovereingty Commission which was set up to protect segregation in the state, from about 1964 to 1977. The SC kept a list of names of people who they considered to be "dangerous" . Donald's name appeared on that list at least 13 times, (Muriel's name appreared once).
Here is its web address: http://mdah.state.ms.us/bugle/sovcom/scagencycasehistory.php.
Visit it when you can.
Muriel wanted to make cerrtain that the family knows something about Uncle Donald's contributions to an important cause.
Thank you Muriel for sharing that bit of history with us.
And we honor the contributions that you and Uncle Donald have made in the struggle for Civil Rights.
